The dress code for master classes by members of the orchestra in Williamson County, Texas is usually “dress casual”. This means that the attire is very informal, unless it's an outdoor concert. The Canton Symphony Orchestra is one of only two full-time professional orchestras in the state of North Carolina. It has 62 full-time musicians from around the world and offers master classes to a select group of conductors.
These classes are designed to help participants develop their gesture, learn useful rehearsal techniques, study and interpret examples from the Baroque repertoire, perform interpretive practice tutorials and conduct rehearsals with the Festival's chamber choir and period orchestra. The master class culminates in a public performance led by the participants. The most successful orchestra conducting masterclass in Europe is held in Città di Castello-Montone, near Perugia-Arezzo, in Umbria, Italy. There is still one place open as an active participant in this masterclass with M° Marcelletti that will be held in Mercatello sul Metauro (PU, Italy) from 2 to 18 August.
In addition to sessions with a variety of orchestras and ensembles, there will be workshops with rehearsal pianists and debates on topics of interest to conductors led by other members of the RNCM faculty. The Breckenridge Music Festival is looking for a dynamic and creative artistic leader to help an established summer festival design a diverse, fresh and inspiring program of chamber orchestra and chamber music performances. Participants will work with singers, pianos and string quartets in preparation for orchestra sessions, and will share an open debate with singers and teachers about opera, opera direction and opera careers. A small number of spaces will be available so that highly trained string musicians can participate in the workshop as conductors and orchestra members with reduced enrollment.
