Ensembles

The Symphony consists of over 60 musicians when in full performance under the baton of Dr. Thomas E. Rainey. However, not every occasion requires the full Orchestra. The musicians have formed smaller groups of instrument "ensembles" to play in other venues.

In the last year, a group of 10 to 18 musicians have played three times assisting church choirs in performing Mendelssohn's Elijah Oratorio, a Christmas Cantata, and a Holy Thursday Cantata. There are ensembles for every type of event:

The "Restless Winds" Brass Quintet
The "Restless Winds" Brass Quintet plays a wide range of music from smooth to lyrical to fast and stirring. The instrumentation is 1st Trumpet, 2nd Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, and Tuba. For more information, please contact "Restless Winds" Brass Quintet.

The Malone Family Solo/Trio/Quartet/Quintet/Larger Ensemble
The Malone Family Ensemble performs with a strong Christian emphasis. The instrumentation can include 1st Violin, 2nd Violin, Viola, Cello, String Bass, Harp, and Piano. For more information, please contact Malone Family Groups.

"Moonlight" Quartet
The "Moonlight" Quartet can play some very challenging classical pieces that would be typical of what might be played in a small ballroom as Royalty entertained their guests in the 1700's. The instrumentation is Violin, Viola, Flute, and Cello. For more information, please contact "Moonlight" Quartet.

"Sans" Trio
The "Sans" Trio plays a range of light classical and popular music. The instrumentation is Violin, Cello, and Piano. For more infomation, please contact "Sans" Trio.

Oboe Trio
Our Oboe Trio has performed some of the remarkable music from Handel's "Water Music". This group includes a 1st Oboe, 2nd Oboe, and an English horn (a big Oboe). For more information on this unique ensemble, please contact Oboe Trio.

For soloists or special groupings of musicians, contact Director of Music.
